Queensland Digital Licence
Working with the Department of Transport and Main Roads of the Queensland Government, we produced the Queensland Digital Licence App. The app enables users to securely share their Driver's licence, Photo ID or Marine licence in order to have their identity verified.
The Problem
The QLD Government identified that a Digital Driver's Licence was a more secure and efficient means of proving your identity. The previous driver's licence was introduced in 1910, and while there have been many upgrades to the licence since then, it was deemed time for the licence to move to a digital format.
The following concerns had to be met in developing the app:
• Security features to ensure all user data is protected.
• For users to know that their privacy is ensured
• The app had to be accessible to all users and meet all accessibility guidelines
• The app must be easy to use for all persons
What we did
Code Heroes created an app with Thales Group, a global leader for data transport and security, that enabled Queenslanders to securely provide government issued photo identification through their digital devices.
The app included the Driver Licence, Photo ID, and Marine Licence. The app enables secure sharing of a user’s digital identity. Users are able to select how much information they wish to share when proving their identity (eg. they do not have to share their address).
The app was tested by Queensland residents for usability and accessibility during the design process. It was incredibly important that the needs of all users were addressed in the app.
Following a successful trial on the Fraser Coast, the Digital Licence will be rolled out to Townsville residents in early 2023.
